SWE goes golfing

The June networking event was a 9-hole golf scramble at the Meadow Links Golf Course.

We had 11 golfers, with only 3 who fell into the category of "Experienced". For more than one, it was the first attempt at golf. We split up into 3 teams (one person who knew what they were doing per team) and proceeded to have an excellent time. I'm sure we'll be doing this one again next year!

20 Cincinnati Girls say Wow! That's Engineering!

The first South Ohio SWE "Wow! That's Engineering!" event held on Saturday, June 9th and attracted 20 middle school age girls from the Cincinnati area. The day was structured around a Tropical Island Adventure theme with five interactive projects to show some fun fundamentals of physics, logic and design. Each activity focused on a different engineering area, including relating a treasure map to computer programming, packaging a banana for a heavy smash and making SWE's signature lip gloss. Feedback was excellent, with both excited girls and pleased parents at the end of the day. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers who helped with this event, both by providing feedback and as being enthusiastic, positive role models for the girls.
  • "A note of thanks from a grateful parent. My daughter...truly enjoyed the experience and came home excited to talk about the problem solving and engineering and science and math concepts she applied during the day.. ."
  • "My daughter...just loved it! She learned so much, and is very intrigued with engineering now..."

Look for more information around September to volunteer to be an energetic part of the second run of this fun event, and for event pictures to be added to the website in the coming days!
